UK teachers and parents urged to talk to children about Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes

Experts say trusted adults must be brave and discuss issue or risk children looking for answers from unsafe sources Teachers and parents in the UK need to be brave and discuss Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes with children and young people or risk them looking for answers from dubious or dangerous sources, according to experts who will host the first public seminar for schools on the issue. Thrive, the education consultancy hosting the online seminar on the convicted child sex offender, said: “Many children and young people are encountering this material often without context, warnings or adult support, leaving educators to manage the emotional and safeguarding impact in real time.” Continue reading...

Mother says asking 13-year-old son to swim four hours to save family ‘one of the hardest decisions’ ever made

Lucy Letby documentary reveals first admission of ‘tiny’ doubt from doctors who accused her

Netflix film revisits evidence that led to Letby’s conviction and hears from expert who says his research was misused Shortly after Lucy Letby was sentenced to 15 whole-life terms for murdering seven infants and attempting to murder seven others between June 2015 and June 2016 – a conviction that made her Britain’s worst ever child serial killer – Cheshire police agreed to give “unparalleled and exclusive access” to the makers of a Netflix film about the case. The finished documentary, The Investigation Of Lucy Letby, which is released on Wednesday, must be very different from what the producers envisaged when they first began work on the project, given the subsequent unexpected turns in the story. Since the two trials, the prosecution evidence and police handling of the case have faced criticism from an unprecedentedly large number of distinguished British and international medical experts. Led by the Canadian neonatologist, Dr Shoo Lee – who says again in the feature-length Netflix documentary that his research was misused to convict the nurse – many of the experts are convinced Letby is innocent, the victim of a catastrophic miscarriage of justice. Pennines delight as drone survey offers hope for one of UK’s rarest birds

Conservationists find dunlin chicks thriving in boggy habitat created in collaboration with landowners Deep in the Cumbrian Pennines, walkers might be lucky enough to spot small birds with spindly legs, long beaks and bodies like feathered balls hopping through the peat bogs.
